SCOPE OF WORK
- The Economic viability of the low carbon-dioxide path for rural development is to be established.
- Sustainable Transformation of Rural Area (SuTRA) concept has to be demonstrated in an area of critical size.
- To build at the levels of villages, panchayats, entrepreneurs, policy makers, planners and non governmental organisations to implement activities related to Sustainable transformation of Rural Areas and to develop an investment port folio to establish SuTRA in semi arid regions of Karnataka
ACHIEVEMENTS
- A path breaking concept of using non-edible seed oils from indigenous trees (like Karanj. Neem etc.,) as substitute fuel for energy generation has been proved extensively in field condition. Since these oils are 100 replacement for diesel, they open up a zero CO2 path. Additionally, they offer an economically viable ecology package be it green cover or safe organic fertilisers and pest repellents.
- Technology package for replication of SuTRA has already been prepared. 250 no's of CD's are released at Jaipur on 29/09/2000. Efforts are under way to initiate projects in states of Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh etc.
- Nearly 20 local persons (both men and women) have been given technical training in operating and maintaining various engineering utilities and services during implementation of projects. They are fully competent in undertaking operation and maintenance responsibilities.
- Even before completion of the project farmers have benefited by buying irrigation water from the project (several farmers have grown watermelon, gherkins, etc., after the ragi crop and have cumulatively earned more than five lakhs rupees. 21 Self Help Groups have been established and they are actively associated in various economically useful activities like grafting, nursery, vegetable drying etc.
